If you are entering a John Doe, born 1945, and the window pops up with a John Doe born 1922, then you should probably continue to enter the one you are working on. If, however, the popup gives you John Doe, born 1945, and he has the same father, mother and spouse as the one you are working on, you should probably assume that that person is already in your database and cancel this entry.
If the people already in the database have no birth or death information and no families, it is going to be rather difficult to know it the person is really a new person or a duplicate of the one already there. Sometimes there are several John Does already entered, but John happens to be a very popular name in the Doe family.
