#95158 Burial Place report with names

Posted by bjenn on 05 September 2019 - 01:07 PM in Discussion

I do list the cemetery name as the place rather than a detail, for example "Archibald England Cemetery, Moatsville, Barbour, West Virginia", I'm not sure that is the correct way to do it but it felt right.

All this info sounds very good folks, I should be able to make something work that will cover what I am looking for. Thanks as usual for all the help!

#95152 Burial Place report with names

Posted by bjenn on 05 September 2019 - 09:06 AM in Discussion

I am looking to print a burial place report that I assume would print alphabetically and then include everyone buried in each place on the report. For example Archibald England Cemetery and underneath all family attached to that burial place, then Annon Cemetery and all buried there, etc. I would assume this would be something handy but maybe nobody else has a need for somethign like this. Thanks in advance for any guidance anybody can give.

#94899 Color coding is not sticking

Posted by bjenn on 22 August 2019 - 07:47 PM in Discussion

No, no crossing as of yet as I am only working on one branch now. I color coded each of my grandparents and then began work on only one group, the red group. All the other three lines are basically waiting to be worked on. So I started on my red line, which, not that it matters, is my paternal granddad line, entered great grandparents, no problem, they were red. Then entered great great grandparents and no color, just whatever the default is, I assume black. So I go back to my grandad, who is still red, and when you hit tools and color code, the selection I made previously to set him red and carry it out to ancestors doesn’t show as selected even though he is still red. I imagine I will have to elect it with each and every successive generation, which kind of defeats the purpose. If color is available as a selection, I could pick it on each and every generation but shouldn’t have to if apply to ancestors is selected. I am lost.

#94890 Color coding is not sticking

Posted by bjenn on 22 August 2019 - 02:21 PM in Discussion

I have set up each of my grandparents as a different color. On each one, I have made sure to select "ancestors" for continuing the color coding. Then I enter parents for said grandparent and everything is still working. However, when I go to enter next set of parents, there is no color coding. So I go back into the root grandparent and re-select "ancestors" and then it goes back to color coding again. I am only working on one branch now because after entering all four grandparents, I wanted to find a sensible way to make progress rather than hopping back and forth between lines and forgetting something, so I don't know if it occurs in each line. In my mind, once you select this, forever after, everyone else should have that color. What am I doing wrong or do I misunderstand the process? Thanks

#94715 Entering military service

Posted by bjenn on 12 August 2019 - 09:18 AM in Discussion

I think I see, so in the date cell, just enter "10 may 1982 - 2 jan 1992" and it will take that and know nearly 10 years in the military. I was just trying to avoid entering one military fact for entering and one military fact for discharge unless that was the right thing to do. In a case where you don't have all the stations or don't want all that entered, a "from-to" would be ideal. Thanks for all the suggestions to all.

#94711 Entering military service

I am trying to figure out the entry of military service when you either don't know specific battles, places stationed, you just know start and end dates. I have watched the "Getting Started" video and I have also searched the forums and I can't find anything to give me guidance on this. I was going to enter a military fact and all I saw was just a date entry. My thought is it should be a "from" and "to" thing for dates. Am I thinking of this wrong? Should there be two or more military facts? As I say, I just want to enter the date entered the Air Force for example, and then the date discharged. Appreciate any guidance.

#94595 Noting parents who raised as well as biological parents

Posted by bjenn on 31 July 2019 - 01:49 PM in Discussion

I have searched the forums for an answer to my question and I didn't find anything that dealt with my specific issue so I apologize if this seems simple. I am just starting Rootsmagic 7 after family research for years and I want to enter everything right starting out.

My great grandmother's mother died when my grandmother was 2, her father moved on and she was raised by her mother's cousin and her husband. When entering the data, I want to show the biological parents as well as the parents who raised her. I will probably not expand on the cousin's family but again, I want to show them as step parents or raising her. They are in the same home for numerous census', not that it really means anything, just a fact. I appreciate any suggestions anyone might have as I am a complete greenhorn at this part of the family tree stuff.
