I took advantage of the Christmas discounts and purchased a copy of Rootsmagic for my brother. I then cloned a copy of my database, pruned out most of my wife's ancestry, and gave this somewhat reduced database to my brother.
As time passes, I expect that our two databases will increasingly diverge. I'm hoping to find some suggestions here as to how to easily, perhaps programmatically, identify the specific differences between the databases, and to incorporate, as appropriate, some of these differences into the other brother's database.
The most recent monthly newsletter had a bullet point for "Android and iPhone/iPad Apps Status", but nothing about the status was actually in the body of the document. I assume this means that there has been no progress to report. Please correct me if I am wrong.
On the average I probably visit this forum at least four times a week to see if there has been a resolution to the failure of the RootsMagic app to run under the Lollipop operating system. Lollipop arrived in November 2014, so this translates into a lot of fruitless visits.
There have also been the hopes and disappointments accompanying each Lollipop minor upgrade, "will 5.01 (or 5.02 or 5.1 or 5.1.1) address the RootsMagic failure?" The answer has been "no". This does exact an emotional toll on each of us who really wants to use the app.
Then there is the frustration and wasted effort of de-installing the app and clearing its data, re-installing the year-old (!) version of the app, verifying the correctness of the database on the PC, jumping through the DropBox hoops of delivering the database to the device, only to have the app continue to fail.
This is really frustrating.
Here is my suggestion:
Set up a notification list, i.e. provide a means for potential users of the app to request that they be notified when RootsMagic has resolved the issue.
A notification list would spare the users a lot of effort and, ultimately, a lot of irritation as well.
I have been very pleased with RootsMagic 7's ability to generate websites quickly and in a very esthetically pleasing presentation.
An enhancement I would like to see would be to show more interrelated information per screen. One way of providing this would be to include the ability to generate an individual's timeline (similar to the Timeline view option in RootsMagic itself). Being able to see the events associated with both a subject person and that person's immediate relatives ordered by date would be a real help to understanding the flow and interaction of people and events over time.
I've been paring down some of the fact types that display on my myRootsMagic web site. All had gone well until I tried to turn off the "Publish online / create HTML" in the "Edit Fact Type" panel for the "Alternate name" fact type. After making that change and republishing, the alt name fields are still showing up.
