Started drawing neighborhood maps at about age 10. They included addresses I lived at and my grandmother's house. Buy a new Rand McNally atlas every year.
Somewhere over the years I lost my dad's old strip maps from the Automobile Club of Southern California.
Family trees (see genealogy below)
Also at about age 10. Drew those rudimentary pedigrees that used circles for females and squares for males.
Knitting (also see genealogy below)
Again, age 10. Had a wonderful 5th grade teacher who was very much ahead of her time. Encourage the children to do whatever they were interested in. Female classmate taught me the basic knit stitch. Taught myself the companion purl stitch a few years later. Knit my first sweater in the early nineties.
First became aquainted with them in the military when medical materiel office converted from paper stock records to key punch processing. Old punch card proces with program cards that wrapped around a drum inside the key punch machine. Watched the progress from there through key-to-tape to CRT based electronic records.
Started researching in 2002. Reconnected to cousins in Arizona. New connections to more distant cousins in Southern United States and in England. Takes up so much time I haven't done a sweater since Christmas 2005!
