In Topic: Put "Living" check box in "Add new person" form

10 March 2011 - 01:55 PM

I would like to have the "Living" check box appear in the "Add new person" template. Right now, as far as I know, it only appears in the "Edit person" window. I find that if I'm adding several people at a time, such as a father and mother, and I don't have their death dates, they are automatically set as living, and I have to go back to the "edit person" form and remove the check in the "Living" check box. (After adding the father, the form entry jumps to the spouse entry and skips any option to edit the "Living" check box for the father, etc.) I often forget to do go back and edit this check box, especially when entering many people at a time. I don't see how the "Add new person" form can be customized to do this right now. However, I think it would be better if it was ALWAYS available in that form instead of just customizable to have it there.

Having to go through the extra steps of opening another form to edit a person's living status is unnecesarily time consuming as opposed to being done with it in the initial addition of a person.

Good idea. It also causes problems if you do a gedcom of people who are not living. It will leave out anyone you have missed marking as not living. This has happened to me.

In Topic: Drop Box Syncing

Thanks! My only thought is to create a directory withing Rootsmagic and call it Gallery. Then the files might match. I haven't figured out how to do that on the Mac.

The sync'd database contains the absolute paths to the photos that is correct on one machine only. Somehow you will need to make the paths on each computer identical. I'm not familiar with how Crossover Mac (or Mac) functions but presumably the photos in it are seen as driveletter:\folderlevel1\folderlevel2\...\photo.jpg. You will either need to create a series of folders to match the way they show on your Windose machine and move them (then the database will spring to life with found images) OR create a series of folders on your Windows machine to match the Crossover Mac and move its photos AND do Search and Replace Multimedia Filenames on one of the RM databases to re-connect and Drop-Box will sync the other. Or thirdly, you will have to rearrange the photos on both machines to common paths...

Okay - I read the posts about the same problem. I switched to Explorer and it uploaded with no problem.
So, that seems to be the solution. It has never happened at any other time so I don't know why it has changed.
Thanks for the help.
