Feature request- fix broken media links log of actions taken

19 November 2020 - 12:02 AM

I'm not asking for much, just a log of what actions were taken by RM when the fix broken media links

command is run.

I'm just very nervous about performing any database wide modification when I can't see what happened. Especially since my media files are organized in a folder hierarchy. When I create files, I don't check for the presence of duplicate file names within the hierarchy, so when RM starts searching, I'm not sure what it will find...

If I had a log, I'd first make a backup, run the command and check the log.

If I was satisfied with the changes made, I'd continue to use the current database. If not, I'd revert to the backup.

Next level up in sophistication, do a "log only" run. Do all the checks, output to the log, but do not make any database changes. If log looks good, then turn off log-only mode and run the command again.

OK, I'll ask for more-

Help documentation needs a bit more info

The online help states-

Tools - Several tools to manipulate items in the Album

Fix broken media links - Searches your computer to find media items and relink them to the correct person, family, event, etc.

Will the command tell me if there are any broken links or not?

Will the command tell me if it can't find a file?

Does the command ever remove a broken link from the database if a matching filename can't be found?

Feature request: Text editor feature vs selection

26 September 2020 - 03:51 PM

The current text editor in RM 7 lacks many standard editing features. (e.g. double click a word to select it, line select etc.)

Instead of asking for each of them, I'd suggest that the app allow the user to select their own text editor.

Design change request: If LDS support disabled, hide LDS items in FamilySearch Person T...

30 August 2020 - 11:57 AM

In RM v7.6.4

unselect all  "LDS  Support" options in the dialog : Menu=>Tools=>File Options

Open FamilySearch Person Tools, select Share Data

Click on the filter options at the top of the left hand panel, which by default shows "No extra filtering",

The list of filters includes 4 filter options specific to LDS features.

These filter options should not be displayed if LDS support is disabled.

Language issue when using RootsMagic with FamilySearch

22 August 2020 - 09:40 PM

Most of the FamilySearch people I connect with are German and are entered and maintained by German speaking FS users. The dates and place names are in German.

When I copy a fact from FS to RM, the date is entered into RM as the German language form. RM treats most of them as irregular.

I'm hoping RM v8 may handle this better. In the mean time, is there any way to convert the irregular dates into normally formatted RM dates?

Finding names in the index- won't recognize umlauted characters

18 August 2020 - 10:04 AM

My database has maybe 500 names starting with O and maybe 300 starting with Ö.

When I try to find a name starting with Ö in the index, the list does not move/scroll as expected.

I can look for O instead, but that gets me to the start of the O's, I then have to manually scroll through them to get to the Ö's. That's not pleasant.

I see that I could use the "Search->Name Find" feature, but it's not actually faster.

What's up?
