Web Page Generation - 3 Enhancements

29 June 2015 - 03:39 AM

I've been playing with publishing my data on my own web site and run into a couple of minor issues that if fixed would really make life much simpler.  I have tried the advanced options under layout to no avail.  I plan to keep my website reasonably current with regular page creation using RM.

  1. Mobile Friendly Sites

While I know there is a mobile version of RM that is based on Andriod and IOS phones there is currently nothing for Windows Phones.
Looking around on the web it seems that it is fairly easy to make web pages reasonably mobile friendly so that they look OK in any nearly all browsers.
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
is a good start; the details can be found here:
As far as I can figure it, all this does is allow the page width to match the device width and do some scaling of the text etc to match.  This probably needs to be built into the routines that create the web pages at the Internet/Generate files for a web site... link in the software.

  1. Colour picker

Would it be possible to allow the entry of color codes on the pages that define the web page color schemes in the form of #b0c4de or RGB so that the pages generated by the software can be made to look like other pages that may be in a web site?  I've managed to incorporate the generated pages but they don’t have the same feel as the base web site.

  1. Fonts

Would it also be possible to set fonts somewhere?  Something as simple as font type and size would be great.  Again this would assist with the look and feel.

Bulk Edits

Hi folks,

Is there and way to bulk change the data in a particular field?

For example can I change every Surname in the database that contains the entry "bloggs" to "blogs"

MyHeritage tree hints

The option to add your email address to filter out your own MyHeritage tree hints is great.  My issue is that I have a relative that has used a great deal of my information and had created a number of trees with the same information.

Would it be possible to allow the feature to have more than one MyHeritage email address, separated say by a semi-colon, so that theirs are filtered out as well?

Checking date formats.

22 December 2014 - 10:34 PM

Hi all,

I've got an issue with a date on an odd format not being recognised in a gedcom file.  I've looked for a way to check if the dates recorded in RM match the requirements of the gedcom spec and can't seem to find anything.

I would have expected it to be an option under Data Clean but can't find anything.

Is there a way, short of visiting every person in the database, to check date formats and fix them where they prove to be wrong?

Also it would appear that the gedcom specification doesn't recognise circa where as RM lets me enter it without conversion to Abt.
