Thanks for all your comments and suggestions.  I have only been using RootsMagic for a couple of weeks and think it is quite likely that I inadvertantly used the 'Cite existing source'.

Thanks, but I created the two sources from scratch using the "Census, U.S. Federal (Online images)" template.  So why does the program think they are the same Master Source?  What am I missing?

When you add a cremation fact, what source category do you use when you have the Cremation Certificate?
