Name Types and Initial Name Entry

26 May 2020 - 05:06 PM

This has probably been asked before so please forgive me.

when I add a new individual to RM7 it does not give me an option to provide a name type for the name.  On initial research I may only have the married name or a nick name for the person, therefore I want to add the name either as there birth name (Which stays as primary) and enter the type as “birth” or enter the name I have and enter it as AKA or married.

If the initial name is not the birth name (married, adoptive, nick, immigrant) then when I find the birth name I want to make this new name the primary name.

Second  Question:  What name type do people use for adopted names.  This is not a listed option?

Lost Source.Author information on GEDCOM Import/Export

25 May 2020 - 02:35 PM

I download the free copy of RM7 and started looking at the GEDCOM import and export results.

I imported a simple Source Record with a Title, Author, Publisher and Repository link, With a source-citation page reference.

RM7 generated an Okay representation of a Chicago style footnote with Author, Title, Publisher, Page

I then generated a GEDCOM from RM7

The GEDCOM source-citation was generated correctly.

The GEDCOM Source record however was not generated correctly, the Author and Publisher information was added to the GEDCOM Source.Title tag rather than creating a separate AUTH and PUBL tag.

This is rather disturbing to me since the title of the book should not include the author and publisher information.

Does anyone use RM7with other Genealogy programs and see this as a problem, or other GEDCOM output issues?
