In Topic: Printing the caption and description of photos

23 April 2015 - 10:51 AM

Thanks!  I was afraid you were going to say that.  I put all the attributions, citations, and permissions for each person's main photo in the description.  Some of the photos can't be printed without the permission, and it's never good practice to print something without the attribution.  So, now, for each photo, all 1,896 of them, I'll have to move that data so it appears close to the photo when printed.  :(

Thanks for responding!

In Topic: Another Sentence Template question

Thank you for some ideas!  Fortunately, not everyone's census years are like my example.  It's relatively easy to customize the sentences for each individual.  I just hoped I could do it globally with one command!  You answered that question that it isn't possible at this time.  That's OK, though.  RM does so much more than I ever imagined a program could do, that this is a minor issue for me.

I had another idea, too.  Make a custom fact for, say, the 1870 census, and design the sentence so that date came first, or use "he" isn't of the full name, etc.  That would break up the monotony.  With your ideas, too, there are several ways to break up the sentences.

Thank you again for coming to my rescue!

Thank you!  This is me not knowing the "language" very well.  I didn't know that command.  Next time when I'm trying to make the program do something, I'll check the commands.  Thank you!

BTW:  Love your signature quote!

In Topic: Publisher not generating RTF file

OK, decided to try it, even though I didn't believe you!  ;)  I dug out Microsoft Office, the last one I bought before I started using OpenOffice.  Installed it.  Then, opened the RTF and it was beautiful!  You were right.  It views and will edit from MS Office.

I thought it had something to do with Microsoft proprietary formats, and that was right . . . apparently, their formats can't be viewed or edited except in their own programs.

Thank you very much!  I'm happy!

By the way . . . I want to mention this because it's been a problem before and might be the problem now, as I think about this.  I have a lot of people in my database who are not American.  Although I'm American, I am able to read and write in some "foreign" languages.  And, something isn't spelled correctly if I don't use the alphabet of the language that I'm writing in.  Consequently, I use foreign alphabets throughout my database, such as French, Danish,

Could it be that the RTF format, because it's so proprietary, doesn't like the foreign alphabets I'm using?  What I'm trying to say is that it might not be a Rootsmagic issue, but rather a limitation in the RTF format caused by Microsoft putting so much proprietary restrictions on the format?
