In Topic: MEDIA GALLERY - Allow Import From Folder

This worksheet has worked beautifully, and I have been able to import all my missing sources and photos in one hit. Because of the way the functionality works, I can now concentrate on the correct linkages and citations, without worrying about whether the media is actually in the gallery. I know that the enhancement request is already in the system, but I'd just like to add my recommendation that it is highly worth while in following through. My belief is that it will take the focus away from "file management" and place it squarely on correct data which is where it belongs.

Once again - many thanks

:D

I use JPEG for photos, but I use PDF for any documentation, such as sources. Major reason for this is the need for multiple pages within the same document. I have also linked an Excel file.

Nettie, why do you consider PDF not a good choice - is there any incompatibility with RM5 or GEDCOMS? I haven't had any problems to date, but I've not been doing this long.

Thanks

TomH, Vyger - thank you both so much for taking this idea and running with it. I shall have to delve deeper into SQlite Tools for RM - on first glance it looks like a very useful set of tools.
I just love working with creative minds.

Thanks Vyger - I would love for you to add this to the wishlist. The way I'm processing these files, it is easy enough to pick out those which are not linked. I only add the caption when I have added the required tags - eg citation, family, person etc - therefore anything without a caption is not linked and needs checking and correcting. When you view the Media Gallery as a File List rather than icons, it is really easy to see - just as long as you don't get interrupted part way through! And I think that having untagged photos NOT exporting to gedcom is a positive thing.
Google Picasa also follows a similar process - you simply select the folder to monitor, and then regularly trawl through for new items to update.
TomH - thanks for your response, but yes, because of the way I organise my files, an import would be way more efficient, and allow me to concentrate on the important issue of details and tagging.
