Can anyone tell me please?

27 July 2020 - 11:01 AM

If I put my database onto  a 'read only' CD disc or USB stick, can someone I give it to transfer it to be 'fully usable'?  i.e do the same with the database as I can? or if they were to purchase the Roots Magic programme themselves, could they then put the one I have given to them on their own programme and so therefore it would become fully usable? am I making sense?

Problem with CD

16 April 2020 - 05:11 AM

I have burnt my database to CD but alot of the media have the red crosses on, and there is no option to 'fix broken media links', I'm soooooo disapointed, can someone tell me whats gone wrong and if it can be fixed. Thanks

Forgot to say, there are no broken media links on the actual database, I have just gone back in and double checked, no red crosses there at all, this is why I can understand whats gone wrong.

UPDATE:  Eureka!!  problem solved, I had been burning the previous CDs with Rootsmagic, thought I'd try using the burner on my computer and hey presto, worked first time, my only problem is it dosn't open automatic when you put the disc in, it's a few more steps to get into it which is a bit of a faff, but at least I got rid of those pesky little crosses!

CD question

13 April 2020 - 11:08 AM

Hi everyone, I know I can make a read only CD to give to family members of my database, but can I put it on a USB instead? if so, how do I do it? Thanks, Jacrista

Just another quick question about splitting database

07 January 2020 - 07:13 AM

Following on from my previous post, if I were to create another database and move all of my husbands family over to that one, can I then delete them from the original database? I'd be keeping my husband on mine of course so is it possible to leave him on mine, move everyone else and then delete all of them from mine? (hope I'm making sense)

Separate databases?

29 December 2019 - 11:27 PM

At the moment I have both mine and my husbands family on my database, is it possible to take his family off and have them on a separate database, so that I could easily swap between the two?

There is no blood connection, no children that links the two family's so I'd have no problem in that way, it's just that I thought my family's database would seem less cluttered on its own, if you see what I mean.

If it is possible, could you explain in dead simple terms how to do it, I'm not very computer savvy and I'd be worried about losing anything. Thanks.
