Changing Date Format When Exporting

28 August 2017 - 04:41 PM

I have my date format for RootsMagic set for the shorter month version (Aug) and have always used that on my ancestry tree as well. When I exported a person from RootsMagic to my Ancestry tree, the date for that person on the Ancestry tree came out as the full month (August) even though it was correctly shown as the shorter version in RootsMagic. I have had to go through and change all of the months for that person in the Ancestry tree back to the shorter version. Why is this happening? Is there something I am doing wrong?

I am not sure if it makes a difference in this case, but I wanted to mention that I am using RootsMagic for Mac. Has anyone else had this same problem?

Refresh Option on Tree Share Screen?

28 August 2017 - 04:29 PM

I was not sure if this was a case of me missing something that was already there or a feature that would be helpful, but I am not seeing a way to have it refresh the information for the person that I have made changes to (using the "Show on Ancestry" button) in the person comparison screen without closing the Ancestry treeshare screen altogether and then restarting the Ancestry treeshare, waiting for it to gather all changes for everyone in the tree, and then scrolling all the way down again to the same person I was just working on to see the changes I made to them in the Ancestry tree. If there was a refresh button on the compare screen for the person I was on and it just got the updates that I just made for that one person and then stayed on that person so I would not have to go all the way out and then all the way back in, that would be helpful. Please let me know if I am just missing it and it is actually already there somewhere.

Same Church with Changing Place Names

02 December 2016 - 08:49 AM

I have been moving churches into Place Details, but I came across a complex situation that I am not sure of the best way to handle. The church did not actually change location, but because of boundary changes and disagreements over time, the church was located in Nottingham Township, Chester County, PA (bet.1701 and 1734); East Nottingham, Chester County, PA (bet. 1734 and 1766); East Nottingham Township, Cecil, Maryland (bet. 1766 and 1800); Brick Meeting House, Cecil, Maryland (bet. 1800 and 1878); and Calvert, Cecil County, Maryland (1878 through present).

If I put the church into the place details of each of those places, depending on what the place was called when the events occured, then I will end up with the same church name spread out in multiple places. The problem with doing so is that I want to be able to see all the people together that have events associated with the same church. Does anybody have a suggestion about the best way to handle this situation? The church in question is just one of several different place details that have the same problem.

Changing Order in Fact Details View

01 December 2016 - 03:09 PM

I know that I can change the order of the items in the fact sentence, but am wondering if I can also change them in the fact detail view so that the description shows up after the date and place. For example, I changed the fact sentence so that the description, such as "Cause of Death: Influenza" appears at the end of the sentence. But in the fact details view, it has the description first and then the place, such as "Cause of Death: Influenza - Zion, Cecil, Maryland, United States." I want it to show it has "Zion, Cecil, Maryland, Untied States. Cause of Death: Influenza". Let me know if my question does not make sense so that I can clarify.
