Long citations

13 September 2017 - 11:51 AM

Trying to get a handle on citations, came up with the following (for instance):

Ancestry.com, U.S., “Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Application Files, 1800-1900”,  https://www.ancestry...5D_136278-00870

(Before submitting this I reviewed how the above link would look on this forum.  It became truncated, the actual link takes up 4 or 5 lines on this forum.)

I am concerned about:

1.  The length of the citation.

2.   The file covers several pages, there are no page numbers and some facts of concern are on previous or subsequent pages.  Should I provide separate citations for each fact?

Anyone have thoughts about this?

Thanks in advance

Free Form Sources

If I copy, paste and rename a RootsMagic source template and change something, does it become a Free Form Template?

If I copy, paste and rename rename a RootsMagic source template and do not change anything, does it become a Free Form Template?

If I copy the elements of a RootsMagic source template into a Free Form Template, does the resulting source template remain a Free Form Template?

Book, Image copy (online)

When using this template, is the idea that one should use the complete web address, for instance:

https://books.google... mcminn&f=false

on checking the the address after posting, I see it has become shortened - open the link to see the full address.

Thank you

Negative evidence

12 July 2017 - 11:55 AM

My problem:  Some online genealogies list the parents of Frederick Osborn (husband of Nancy Wallace) as being the son of Joseph Osborne and Elizabeth Burke, but I have disproved this possibility with several facts.

My questions:

Should I enter my disproof into my database?

If so, what might a negative fact template look like for this information?

Should I have a separate entry for each reason?

Of course, the other possibility is to ignore the problem.

Opinions please.

Thank you

Inconsistent Source Template behavior

23 June 2017 - 07:50 PM

I had mentioned this before - several years back - when I was using a Windows XP computer, now I'm using Win 10.

Sometimes - when I open a source template, the green Source Details portion of the Edit Source window does not appear.  I just had an instance where I had to open the "Book Image Copy (Online)" template four times to finally get the Source Details section to appear.

Unfortunately, this problem is not limited to one single source template.  It happens often enough that I just got tired of this problem and wanted to voice my frustration.

If this happens to a newbie, they would probably assume there was no Source Details section to the template they are trying to use.
