People List

20 November 2009 - 03:48 PM

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but it doesn't appear that a spouse's name will show up in the People List unless you add a child. If they don't have a child, how do you amend the facts on the spouse. I tried different ways and I can't seem to find a way.

Thanks.

Best Set-up

12 November 2009 - 01:35 PM

Since I'm new at genealogy and RootsMagic 4, I'm not sure how I should go about structuring the family trees. I have done my grandfather's tree and have now started my grandmother's. I started them at separate files. Is this the best thing to do or should I have done them together? If I keep them separate is there a way to drag my family's information into my grandmother's tree instead of retyping it all?

Thanks.

Another Relationship Question

01 November 2009 - 03:00 PM

This is complicated, but it "the times" I guess.

I have a niece who is not married. However she is in a relationship, so I listed her partner as "marriage contract". They have two children. During a break-up, she had a third child and I listed the father as a "separation" from my niece. His name does not show up on my list of people. Also, I can find a way to identify him as the father of the third child?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Annette

Edit: I added a Fact called "Partner". I have listed both the fathers, but the second one doesn't show up on the list of people. When I click on my nieces name, he shows up as a partner, but I can't add his birthday or any information. Therefore, I assume that's why I can't show him as the father to the 3rd child.

Relationships

Hi everyone,

I just purchased MagicRoots 4 and I'm really excited about it. It's the first time I've used this type of software. It has been relatively easy to use, but I do have a couple of questions.

We have members in our family that are a couple, but not legally married. There doesn't seem to be a fact for "partners" or something to that extent. I chose Marriage contract, but there's no date really that I can put in. Also, how do you enter a second "partner".

One thing I noticed is that if I select a family member (e.g. sister), on the pedigree view, it does not show all of her children? In some cases it has shown the oldest and in another case the youngest. Is it possible to show all the children in that view? It might get a little crazy with a large number of siblings. Anyway, just curious.

Thanks.
