nFS Import Error

01 September 2009 - 05:01 PM

I tried RM4's new feature, Import Family Tree from FamilySearch, set the options to 10 ancestor levels and 4 descendant levels. After downloading for a while, it popped up with the following error:

Error #500, PersonDetail not found. PersonId:
fs-ft.p.KN27-3WK Inner PersonId: fs-ft.p.KXBP-1ZX
[OK]

However, the search/download process continues in the Import a Tree from FamilySearch dialog.

If I press OK, RM4 shuts down.

This has happened three times now, although, strangely, the fourth time I opened RM4, the search resumed. Now, I have the RM4 open the fifth time, and this error popped up again (with different ID numbers), and if I press OK, nothing happens. The error message stays where it is, and the search is stopped in the Import a Tree from FamilySearch dialog.

Pack/Encode Media Files in File

07 August 2009 - 04:14 PM

Ancestral Quest 12 offers a cool feature:
You can export a file (GEDCOM, FTM, PAF, etc.) from AQ with any of the following options:

Include:

  • Notes
  • Sources
  • Contact Info
  • Confidential Data
  • Prepared by
  • LDS Data
  • Full Info on Living
    • Names on Living
  • Scrapbook Links
    • Encode Scrapbook Items
  • Research/To Do Items
    • General Item
  • DNA Markers

The ○ Encode Scrapbook Items option makes for a very large file, but it is distributable!!! RM4 is way above the other competition in handling media files, but it still needs the multimedia files to remain where they are in order to keep links intact. This need could be done away with (thus easing the burden on collaborating workers who scan documents and use digital photos often) by including the images with the file.

I Miss Being Able to Edit Posts!

03 August 2009 - 05:58 PM

I miss being able to edit a post after I publish it. I often think of a word or sentence I left out only seconds after posting, and used to be able to edit the message... Not any more, though. <_<
Could we get that function back?

@kbens0n sent me a link with which I was able to edit this post. The Edit button still is either invisible or missing, but I guess I could just tinker around pasting the post numbers into the link. :D That could get old fast.

Import Legacy 7 Sources (& Templates)

20 July 2009 - 04:01 PM

I know I've mentioned this before... But just to keep it fresh:

I'd really, really, REALLY, REALLY like to be able to import the source templates I created in Legacy 7 into my RM4 file. This means creating a workaround that retains all the information I entered in the fields or just creating a utility that would do it for me or implementing the feature in the import function.

Narrow Down Source Templates

20 July 2009 - 03:31 PM

We are very appreciative of having templates from Evidence Explained, Evidence!, QuickSheet, and Cite Your Sources incorporated into this program. However, since you have incorporated 4 books, some types of documents have more than one way to cite them (using different styles of citations from different books), which can lead to inconsistencies if multiple users are working on the same tree. I work with an elderly gentleman who is overwhelmed by the number of source templates and the too-similar descriptions. I have also noticed that while some source templates have similar names and descriptions, they are designed for rather different types of documents. Along with being more descriptive in the descriptions, I can see two solutions to these problems:

1. Group the source types together in a hierarchy with the parent level being the book the source template comes from (or another user-defined field), and search the list either 1) within a certain book only, or 2) within all books. As a genealogist, I prefer ESM's Evidence Explained, but could see the pros of having the other books in there, too.

2. Make sure that there is only one template for each kind of document. This would mean you weeding out the duplicates.
