OK, let's add a photo and see where things are going awry.
I am going to use John Doe as an example, you can pick anyone in your database.
Double click on John Doe to bring up his edit screen.
The top line , Person with his name, should be highlighted.
Click on EITHER the little box to the right of the name in the camera column or on the media button toward the lower right of the window.
You should be taken to the window: Media Album - John Doe (and maybe a number, depending on your file options)
Click on Add New Media (OR Add from Gallery)
--If you choose Add new media, in the add media item window, choose Image and click on Disk (since you have them on your external drive.)
In the "Open" window, if you are not in the drive and folder you want, click the little down arrow at the right of thee very top field and choose the drive you want, then navigate to the folder and see the photos.
When you see the one you want, click Open. (or double click on it)
You should now see the Media properties window, add a caption and/or any of the other fields then click OK (cancel will still get you the picture, but without the caption and other fields there.)
Now. close the John Doe edit person window and you should see a picture there to the left of his name at the top of the screen.
If NOT, and there are photos showing in his Media Album, it is possible that none of them have the "Primary Photo" box checked in their Properties. Click on one of them and then the Properties button, click on the box before "Primary Photo" to put a check there. NOW, close the album and his edit person window and see if there is a photo there before his name.
There is another box in the properties window, "Include in Scrapbook", if that is not checked then that photo will not show up in any of the scrapbook reports.
