In Topic: Deleting 'Unknown' Spouse

Have you tried right clicking on this spouse, or the real spouse when the unknown spours is showing, and selecting delete family. Unless you change the default, this only deletes family links, it does not delete any people.

OR, perhaps this unknown spouse is one that was entered by hand, in that case, you can just delete the unknon spouse.
If none of that works, try exporting a GEDCOM file and importing it into a new, empty database and see if the unknown spouse is still there.

I tried everything except selecting delete family. Program wouldn't let me delete the unknown spouse but when I selected delete family, I was able to at least unlink the unknown spouse. It is now gone. Thanks!

In Topic: Entering Census info in all family members at once

I use the Census (family) for the husband and wife, then under fact source, enter where I got the info, microfilm, page of census etc.  Then under the 'text' part of the source, I enter everyone who was in the household. So the children who were there, and any visitors, other family members, are entered and show up in a report (if you print the sources).

TMG has a feature that I like. For any event, you can add witness's. In the case of a census, when you add someone as a witness to the primary person's event, for example the wife you get "She appeared on the census of August 26, 1850 in the census household of (Husband) in (County, State). That line appears on reports for each person listed as a witness. Pretty cool actually.

Click on the unknown spouse in the family view and see if there are any children linked to the person and the unknown spouse?

If there is a child linked without a second parent, then the unknown spouse is the second parent.

Now, if this child shoudn't be linked as a child of the single parent and the unknown spouse, right click on that child and select UNLINK from parents. Once you have unlinked all of the unknown spouses children, it will go away.

There are no children linked to the unknown spouse that I can find. I can't find any links to the uknown spouse other than the "other spouses" button. I just can't figure it out.

The Unknown Spouse is added to anyone with a child but no real spouse. It is not used in reports, just as a sort of placeholder.
The only way to get rid of it is to unlink all of the children and it will go aqay by itself, or replace it with the name of the real spouse.

"Spouse" doesn't actually mean that they were married, you have to enter a marriage fact to make reports say they were married.

I have a similar problem with the unknown spouse. The individual in question has a valid spouse with all children associated with this marraige. The unknown spouse is a second spouse, but there are no facts or anything that I can see linking this unknown spouse. How do I get rid of it?
