A Minor Problem

05 June 2004 - 08:00 AM

When creating a book with RM publisher, if you have created chapters with narrative reports and go back and change the Report type for a chapter, e.g. from “Descendants – Modified register (Record) format” to “Descendants – Register format”, the Title of report changes from “Descendants of John Doe” to Descendants of “. You then have to retype the name of the individual for the Chapter title. This is a fairly minor problem, but something to be aware of and possibly fixed in some future update.

Photos in linked to the database

29 May 2004 - 08:55 AM

Is there a way to list all of the pictures/scrapbook items/links included in a database, preferably with the links listed? It would be very useful for moving a database from one computer to another when you have not been careful how you stored the photos in relation to RootsMagic, etc. We are cleaning up our database and it is a considerable effort to find all the photos, etc. included in it. sad.gif

RM2 Pedigree Chart

Would still like to see the preparer's information as an option on pedigree charts. There appears to be no way to not include it which is causes problems for us in publications (books). sad.gif

Photo Quality

12 May 2004 - 07:30 AM

We would like to see RM improved to provide “what you see is what you get” in terms of photos. After some experimenting, we found that if you link to photos that have varying dpi quality, the ones with the higher dpi show up with lower quality on the screen than those with lower dpi. It is bad enough that we did not want to print the scrapbook with the high dpi photos after viewing them on screen. When we did print the scrapbook with the high dpi photos, we were pleasantly surprised to see the quality of the results. As a matter of fact, the higher dpi photos have a slightly higher quality than the lower ones when printed. We also notice a lesser degradation of quality on the screen when we print high dpi photos to a pdf but the resultant printed pages come out the same as printing directly from RM. In contrast, we tried inserting the same pictures into MSWord. That resulted in a true depiction on screen of what would be printed. If anyone is interested in seeing this phenomenon, we have the three pictures in progressive quality (300, 150, 72 dpi) we can share.

Having said all of that, we find RM to be a great program and we would recommend it to anyone. Looking forward to receiving Version 2.0!

Report Formating

11 April 2004 - 11:43 AM

It would be nice to have two new options when preparing reports/books:

1. Allow Pedigree Charts and Family Group Sheets to be prepared without including the preparer's name and address.

2. In Narrative Reports, allow the preparer's name and address to be shown at the bottom of the last page of the report.
