Report selecting Place Detail only

18 August 2015 - 03:14 AM

Is there a way to do a report (stock or custom) so that I can retrieve only people with a given event (birth/marriage/death/burial generally, but only one at a time) for not only a selected place, but a selected place detail.

For example, I have added under my more commonly used places, place detail entries for different towns/cemeteries within that place (generally at the county level). Because my database is quite large (almost 90K records), and many of them are from only a handful of counties, I would like to be able to pull a report for something like the following

Give me all of the people in my database who are buried at "St James Cemetery" in "Given County, State"

Ideally formatted like the existing Place List report.

Right now, I can use the Place List report, but for some of my larger counties, it returns so many names that trying to export it into MS Word or Excel to clean up to get only what I want comes very close to choking MS Office (it works, but it churns forever).

SQLite Error 1 happening again

09 January 2015 - 06:50 PM

on Database tools/ compact database

This after getting numerous access violations that prevented me closing the database.  Am I going to have to export everyone, delete this database and create a new one via import AGAIN?  This is ridiculous.  Sign me frustrated user.

Oh Yeah, it's been compacting for 5 minutes.  Should it take that long to compact a 70K database?  Or is is stuck?  The rest of the database tools ran okay, or so it seemed.

2nd edit: The compact must have finished but for some reason the dialog box saying that it's compacting didn't clear.  I was able to clear the main database tools window and can navigate the database.

Application will not close

05 December 2014 - 06:10 AM

I clicked the Close button. It asked for a backup (backup did not happen).  Then it wouldn't close.

Prior to this, the application was partially frozen.  I could navigate between family members (I was on a family view) but double-clicking to view person details or clicking to go to a child & spouse did not work.

Note: more curious... I was able to use the menu and see menu options.  But nothing actually happens. (well, I was hesitant to try to run the Database Tools on what appears to be a locked or hung database).

I had a Malware scan run early this morning, nothing was found, so there are no detectable viruses or malware on my computer.

This is an almost new import of a large (70K+ person) database.

My only option now is to kill the application using Task Manager.

Access violation error message

28 November 2014 - 06:04 PM

Received the following error message that won't clear (or rather keeps re-occurring) such that I cannot properly close the program.  I will have to resort to killing it through Task Manager.

Access violation at address 00407504 in module RootsMagic.exe.  Read of address 0000543D.

There is another error message "RootsMagic has encountered an unexpected error: Access violation at address 008B2ACF in module 'Roots..." (rest of error message is hidden).  Because of the error message first documented above, which won't clear, I cannot close this other error message nor can I "Send Error Report".

I assume that this will leave my database in an inconsistent state?  This database started as a new import from a GEDCOM of a largish (75,000+ records) database I have been maintaining for several years.  Periodically I export it as a GEDCOM and re-import it into a new empty database to ensure it's integrity.  I did this the other night right after upgrading to RootsMagic 7.

I have separately already experienced errors trying to compact the database after successfully running the other tools listed under "Database Tools"
