In Topic: Report selecting Place Detail only

My reason for wanting to be able to import lists by place detail into Excel (ideally) or MS Word (or even MS Access) is so that I can more easily double-check cemetery listings in my database against online cemetery listings (FindAGrave, cemetery listings on other websites, etc.)

Much easier than looking up each name and then checking if I have a burial fact and if the burial fact matches.  Also, in some cases, I know I am dealing with several cemeteries that have similar names, and it would be much easier to validate if my records are accurate by comparing listings that are basically in a table format.

Just the way my brain works...

I have a separate open ticket about the access violations, but one thing I've noticed that may be related to how slow RM is in releasing resources beIeen "tasks", is the following:

I tend to type very quickly, and instead of using the mouse, I often use keystroke shortcuts.  I will move on to a new action via keystroke fairly quickly and do not consistently wait for the total completion of the previous task.  RM6 was occasionally laggy with this but bearable (I did get the occasional access violation with RM6 as well).  RM7 seems to be much laggier in processing database writes, both initial record creation and record updates (but especially the initial record creation).  I don't know if this is related to the database size, or the database schema (and the number of table writes that seems to be occurring as part of the initial creation of a record for an individual person).  It comes to mind that it may also be related to the size of data written with the creation of an initial person record.  Often when I am creating a person record, I am including items such as obit text, or I will go back and add interesting newspaper tidbits I have found.  Which of course increases the size of data written since I've added info into the Notes field of a fact.

Try going to Task Manager via Cntl-Alt-Delete and find RootsMagic 7 in the list of running applications.  It will probably say "Not Responding".  Kill the application and answer Yes to any nag messages.

Then it should reopen successfully.  Then run the database tools to ensure that hopefully all is good.

This has generally worked for me in the past (and hopefully will continue to do so).  Not a good solution, but appears to be the only option other than a full re-boot.
