You might want to make absolutely sure that you weren't inadvertently referencing two different databases. Try File > Search for files to see if you might have multiple databases and if you might've been updating one, but looking at another.

For restoring a backup, are you using File > Restore Backup . . . ? Just be sure to choose a unique "Folder to restore backup in" to avoid overwriting an existing database!

I appriciate your comments - I have use only one 'main' database, anything else is just some GED I am looking at, not something I add data to. Years ago, I kept two databases going, one for my family and one for husbands. I combined these two to simplify things. I am thinking that the program is somehow jumping over the current database, and opening a back up. If that's the case, I don't know how to solve it. I have been using this program since the old Family Orgins, I hate to think of a change because I have been happy with it and have used it so long.
On the restore problem ---- I create a new database, call it something diffenent from my 'main database'. the I click 'restore' and browse to the zip that I want to restore. I do the clicks to it asks for, everything seems to be working fine, but when it finishs, I have no people - nothing comes in. GED files come through fine. gloria in NE Texas
