In Topic: Add a source to each fact when importing GEDCOM

Alfred and All,

This works great and is actually quite painless once you have done it a time or two. I found one issue which causes me grief so I thought I may as well post it.

When any individual in the database has an "Alternate Name" fact the process above does not remove the source entry correctly and so lists two duplicate sources for the individual and none for the alternate name fact. I found that this can be avoided by running the "fact list" report on the database listing all persons with the "Alternate name" fact. With the individuals identification numbers in hand and after performing the process above and while still in word you can find the individuals and move the new source entry which is found just above the "alternate name" fact to just below the "alternate name" fact.

Alfred please feel free to find an easier way or to document this process and post it as I do not have my notes here just now. Suffice to say that these methods have worked for me for nearly 900 imported persons and is a really complete way to insure that you know where your facts came from. I sincerely hope that Bruce finds a way to get this into RM.

BTW: If you want this exact functionality in a program do not try to purchase $10 products on the internet that suggest that they add sources to each entry in the database. These products do exactly what RM does now. They only add a source to each individual, not each fact. To my knowledge the only way to do this at this time is to do it manually. (and I have searched high-and-low) <smyle>

Thanx again Alfred!!!

Exactly! This is the issue. If I have 5 facts of the same type I have to open each one to find the current primary fact, deselect it, then go set the one I want. Yes, I do have some facts which are exact duplicates of others save the source.

Perhaps an "wish-list" item eh?

Thanx Alfred!!

In Topic: Arrange ALL children by DOB?

Thanx Alfred, but perhaps I was not clear:

I want to do this with all 450 families in my DB. Not an easy task family by family...

Is there an easy way to do this with ALL families at once?
