Hi Debbie,
Don't have the answer for your problem, but I will be down in the area from 1 Feb till middle of April.
Maybe we can get together and create a study group in your society and do a instructional manual
for your members. Mine would also like one, so maybe two heads will be better than one.

What are your meeting Dates for this time period????

In Topic: bad rootsmagic.ini file

Frankie,

Is your copy of RM new? By that I mean did you have a copy of RM before version 3.+?
I recall somewhere that some users including myself had some problems with the .ini file when we upgraded to version 3..
I was frusterated myself until I ran a search under windows and found that the location for my RM version 2 ini file was in another directory, and some of my problems had come from it being read instead of the version 3 ini file.

My rootsmagic 3 ini file is located under:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\RootsMagic

Older one's were located under c:\windows if memory serves me right.

Suggestion, if you have one under windows, create a directory say ini files, and move it there.

Then, go to Start\Control Panel\System\System Restore and turn off System Restore by removing the check in the box to enable system restore.

Close down your computer by closing all open programs and shut down the computer. This will clear the system restore directory, and then restart your system.

Try running you RM program then and if it works, go back to the control panel and re-enable your system restore. It should find the correct ini file and should run OK.

QUOTE(Seamus @ Jan 14 2005, 05:21 PM)
I am new to RM. I have imported a ged com and I am now editing and checking all my sources. My problem is that, while the source list shows all the sources. it does not show the personal file number. My personal file has my sources numbered, certs, extracts form data bases etc. I would like to be able to refer to this when I print e.g. an individual summary.

From Bruce's list of Version 3 features on the RM mailing list:

Can sort printed source list by footnote, picklist name, or personal file
number. I am assuming that the personal file number will show if selected
for the printed source. Feature list doesn't go into all the detail, and if you have
a question on these features, ask them on the mailing list where they appear.

That should do the trick for you. On 8 Sep, 2005 call or log in and order your copy of Version 3...
