I just downloaded and installed the most recent version of RootsMagic onto my computer (Vista operating system). The databases are not where they should be. When you click "open" there are no databases there. However, if you click on File menu, then "Search for files" my databases show up at this location: C:\Users\Terry\Desktop\Documents\RootsMagic data\ (name of file).rmg
Can anyone tell me how to move them into my RootsMagic program? Thank you.

Transferring database to new computer
15 August 2007 - 12:30 PM
I asked about this subject awhile back, but had to put my work on hold until now. I am transferring from my old computer onto my new computer (with Vista). So far, I have made a CD with all my old info including multimedia files, collected into one folder called RootsMagic backup. I have copied the folder onto my new desktop.
I am having trouble with my next step. I open RootsMagic- which is just the program- I haven't opened any new databases in it yet. I clicked on "Open" and the list of five folders is displayed. I have the open RootsMagic backup folder displayed alongside on the desktop. When I try to "drag and drop" files from backup over to the Rootsmagic folder screen, it doesn't work. As soon as it crosses onto the folder list screen, a circle with a line through it appears. (Not do-able.)
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks,
Terry Lee

Copying RM to put on new computer
25 April 2007 - 06:20 PM
I just got a new computer (with Vista). I don't know how to copy all my RootsMagic data onto a CD, and then install it onto my new computer. I have installed the program from my program disk onto the new computer. The old computer works but does not access the internet anymore, so I cannot send the Gedcom files to myself in an e-mail, like I did one other time.
Will this also transfer the photos and documents I have in the Multimedia scrapbook? or is there something else I need to do to transfer those files?
Whomever decides to be kind enough to help me- a warning... You have to give me all the basic steps, or I will be lost.
Thanks so much.
