In Topic: Convert names to mixed or upper case

There needs to be an option to convert surnames from uppercase to mixed case and back again if the user so desires. I realize that I could go thru and change each name manually but this is not an acceptable option.

Displaying names in all uppercase is easy('a' or 'A' is 'A', 'b' or 'B' is 'B', etc.). Changing from all uppercase to mixed case not determininistic. To illustrate, think about what would be involved in teaching a second grader a set of rules that would convert these names correctly.

PS - This is only a sample. There are how many different surnames in the world? If rules get just one wrong, your software will trashed on the support forums for currupting the genealogist's 35 years of painstaking research!

Could you please give examples of each? Assume John Henry Smith, born 2 Jan. 1923 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

Alfred -

I have mentioned that I haven't upgraded to RM4 from RM3. That means I'm still using RM3. I've discovered, and have been told, that RM3 has a generation limit of 31. That, for me, is a deal-breaker.

Download the free trial for RM4. It happily co-exists with RM3. Import your data. Try out the website creation.

Wonder if anyone else is experiencing this:

Ctl F from Family View immediately brings up the RM Explorer

Click on Find and resulting "Search for Information" screen takes 25 seconds (timed) to appear.

I'm seeing delays as well. I'm running on XP. I only have a couple of browser windows open and I just saw a 3 second delay. Last night when I was working, I was seeing longer delays. It seemed like it was taking longer, the longer I had RM running.

2. Data entry
b. Having to click "save" after each data entry is highly annoying and promotes errors if one forgets!

You only have to click Save if you want RM to update the events part of the display. When you click Close or start adding a new fact RM will automatically do the save.
