Can you recommend a "SAFE" way to delete several old MASTER and BACKUP files from the program? I hesitate to just go into MS Explorer and start deleting just on old date or some criteria. But the computer is getting quite cluttered.thx ohmy.gif

Are these old files in the RootsMagic folder or are they in a different folder or sub-folder?

The safest way to delete the RootsMagic files is through rootsMagic.

Open a database, review it carefully, if don't want it anymore and, you are positive of that, just go to the File menu, choose delete database. You get one last chance to change your mind, you have to type the word "YES" to get it deleted.

As for the backups, you can start to create or restore a backup. When you get to the point of giving the backup a name or selecting the backup to restore, right click on one you want to delete and choose "Delete" from the dropdown menu.

GEDCOM files can be culled the same way.

NEVER just delete a file or folder from within My Computer or Windows explorer unless you are sure you know what you are doing.

P.S. If you happen to have two databases open at the same time, be sure that they are DIFFERENT databases and not just two copies of the same one before you delete one of them. If both are copies of the same database, deleting one will destroy both. -- Check the "Window" menu item in RootsMagic to see which databases you have open.

Deleting a database from within RootsMagic does not send it to the recycle bin, it DELETES it for good. sad.gif
