In four of my ancestors' names I find something like this in the Suffix field: (2G) or (3G-2).  I had a few more but in cleaning up my database I eliminated those.  Does the 'G' stand for Generation?  Is it important?

No, they can be deleted. They are artifacts from someone who was working lines from their perspective only for identification purposes.

Betcha they could also have asterisks or whatever in FamilySearch too.
