We are currently testing and looking for feedback on an updated RootsMagic 7 wrapper for MacOS Catalina. If you have Catalina and would like to use the wrapper:
  1. Uninstall RootsMagic 7 following these instructions: https://support.root...agic-on-the-Mac
  2. Download and install the test wrapper at http://files.rootsma...-7-Mac-Test.dmg
  3. Email support@rootsmagic.com and let us know if the wrapper is working or if you are encountering any problems.
Note: Because this new wrapper is still in beta we are not recommending you upgrade to Catalina just to try this out.

Yahoo. Uninstall and new wrapper install worked great. Now to test it out. I've been using Catalina since shortly after it came out and have had only a few minor issues. I plan to use this test wrapper until RM 8.0 for Mac comes out and will let you know if I run into any issues.

QN: the final step of the uninstall instructions is to install the latest RM7.

Should we do that before installing this wrapper?

I'm using a 27" 5K iMac retina running Catalina 10.15.4 Beta (19E242d)

I didn't do that step, installed the wrapper, and when I try to start RM7 it crashes immediately with the following:

Step 9 in the cleanup procedure is step 2 in Renee's procedure above.

"Download and install the latest version of RootsMagic."

This means to download and install the test package. The test package is the 'wrapper' plus RootsMagic 7 (In other words, the complete Mac installer).

I revived my old 2010 MacPro 13" and installed Catalina on it. I then installed the downloaded Mac test package. It installed with no issues, updated RootsMagic (an update was available on News), and RootsMagic v7.6.3 is now working just fine.

Jim, can you open a support ticket on this. So far you're the only one that says they can open the beta version CrossOver wrapper on Catalina. I've only got it to work on my iMac running Mojave.

Renee,

Keep in mind that I'm running Catalina on an unsupported 2010 MacBook Pro. The Catalina installer was modified to allow the MacOS install. Catalina is working normally. There are things that don't work on an unsupported Mac but those are things that I normally wouldn't use or do.

Spencerdawg above also wrote that he was successful in installing the beta version CrossOver wrapper on Catalina.

Yahoo. Uninstall and new wrapper install worked great. Now to test it out. I've been using Catalina since shortly after it came out and have had only a few minor issues. I plan to use this test wrapper until RM 8.0 for Mac comes out and will let you know if I run into any issues.

Spencer, I missed that you also had the new wrapper working. Do you have an unsupported Mac too?  Please open a support ticket so I can have a record of this.  https://support.root...us/requests/new

I just gave it a try. For  me, Roots Magic 7 launches (I see "Roots Magic" in the menu bar, but then, nothing. If I hover over the menu bar I see a spinning rainbow. The application shows "Not responding" in Activity Monitor. After ten minutes or so, I force quit.

I installed Catalina from the first release and have been without RM since (except for viewing data on my iPad). I'm up to date on Catalina, running on a new MacBook Air. I will give it a try in a test user where I don't have a zillion things running in the background, but clearly it doesn't work in my normal configuration.

Renee;

When the new wrapper is released, is it intended to be a universal replacement for the current one or just intended to work on Catalina? If it is not a universal wrapper, I trust it tests the O/S version prior to trying to install. Based on what I've read, I hope it will also halt installation, if there is an existing installation of the wrapper.

Just to put a slightly different perspective on this. I use the full version of Crossover, and updated to V19, which is the 64-bit version, a month or so ago whilst still on High Sierra. RM7 worked just fine on that for me, which involves very heavy use of the Family Search interface. I have left RM running for many days, with my Mac sleeping at times, particularly overnight, but the FS interface picks up every time when I return to it. At the beginning of this week, I finally decided to update to Catalina, and RM has worked just fine since then. That suggests to me that the new wrapper should work equally well on previous versions of MacOS, not just Catalina.

The updated RootsMagic 7 wrapper for MacOS Catalina has arrived. The same wrapper can be used with previous MacOS versions.  The directions are here - https://support.root...-Catalina-Users
