As part of the wish list for RM8 I would like to see MultiCite have the following abilities expanded:

1. When selecting Multiple individuals for the source the ability to key in the citation details before the citation is attached but with the addition that the details would be modified to have the name added automatically of the selected individual(s) to person of interest (along with the principle person that one would type in).

2. I've seen this recommended before but add MultCite button next to the edit source screen (much better option then Memorize and Paste function).

Thanks.

Oh yes and number 3. When selecting individuals to MultiCite have the ability to have the source added with a new event(s) to each individual. Have those events automatically tagged for follow-up to merge the with existing events OR to ask if you want to change the event details now and allow you to do so without leaving the MultiCite function. Currently the source only attaches to the person event.

This type of thing has been on my mind very much of late, the link at the bottom is one Alfred started way back in the day and for reference only.

I frequently add new record collections to a new empty database before input into my main database, why? - well it's a cheat on the source entry process for me to speed things up beyond the current memorize and paste functions which are individual event by event operations. I am fortunate that I can multicite the multiple facts and persons which come from the extraction of a new record collection outside RM but the bulk of users are snagged by this limitation, the present RM MultiCite applies only to the individuals and not the facts which would be desirable.

Alfreds original post was suggesting additional options over and above the Gedcom Source entry options available for application to People or all Events on Import, this would work well with my current model of working where all new entries and events stem from the same source collection, MultiCite within the Edit person screen or MultiPaste would also be a beneficial addition.

I am well aware that RM8 is well in the can by now but just wanted to express my opinions regarding this current time consuming process, Renee has declared both on this thread and the old one linked below they have been added to the enhancement request list.

I don't import GEDCOM much anymore, neither from other researchers nor from myself. So this wish isn't super high on my list. It would be super high on my list of I were still importing GEDCOM on a regular basis. Why shouldn't drag and drop have all the options that GEDCOM export and import include?

But I'm puzzled by one thing. MultiCite only works with Master Sources and not with Source Details. I store all my source data in the Master Source, but I suspect most users store at least part of their source data in the Source Details. So how would all this bulk data entry and automatic sourcing on drag and drop (or even on GEDCOM import) work when you want your source data split between Master Source and Source Details? Wouldn't the process make you a source splitter whether you wanted to be or not?

Jerry, I have just found it quicker on occassions to enter a new record set into a virgin database as quickly as possible and without any sources or citations. When complete I can multi Source all the facts like for example person, baptism, birth, parents etc as the collection they originated from. Once my orphan database is tidy and complete I can then add to my master database.

The only reason I do this is speed, the current memorize and paste individually is just a little slow, my citations would not be as micro detailed as some and this works for me. I posted as I am working a collecton at the moment and did a search to see if the topic was raised before, an option to multi copy Sources inc citations would also be a positive consideration in my opinion.
