I would like to rename my tree but am not sure how to do that since the tree is connected to RootsMagic.

I realize I will get a whole new folder and associated files on my desktop for the 'new' tree.

In RM use File>Rename. If you have an media folder with downloads from Ancestry then just change the part of the name of the media folder to be the same as the database.

I would like to rename a tree I have on ancestry that is tree shared to rootsmagic.  The current tree on ancestry is private but now that I've completed the ancestry DNA test, I would like to make it public to widen my potential contacts.  As the current tree has a someone cryptic name I would like to rename it, at least on ancestry to something more informative eg Jones-Smith instead of jsreboot4.

I know how to rename the tree on ancestry and how to make it public.  Will I loose the tree share link by renaming it?  Can I then also rename my rootsmagic tree and maintain the tree share connection?  Thanks.

Yes, you can rename either or both without losing the TreeShare connection.
