I've got RM5 running on a Fusion virtual machine running Windows XP.

Should I upgrade that first to 7, and then install what I need to run it directly on my Mac?

Or can I simply install RM 7 for Mac and then restore a backup from my RM 5?

I'm a Windows user, not Mac, but you shouldn't have any problems.

-

My advice:

1 - Backup your RM5 database

2 - Go to your Mac documents folder and set up your RM folders for Data, Backup, Media, GEDCOM and Reports

3 - Copy your RM5 backup into the new RM7 backup folder

4 - Install RM7 (either the Essentials or full version)

5 - Start RM7 and go to Tools - Program - Folders and use the [...] buttons to navigate to the folders created in step 2

6 - File - Restore your RM5 database

-

That's basically it. You should be ready to go.

-

If you have media files linked & tagged in RM5, then in step 3 copy those into the new RM7 media folder

Once the database is restored, you should go to Lists - Media Gallery - [Tools] - Fix broken media links

I think you will be much happier with RM7 for Mac since you don't need to install it on your virtual machine. It will run on the Mac side. You can restore your RM5 backup in RM7.

Thanks!  Last Question(s):

After I download the RM7 for Mac won't it ask me for a registration key?

Since I have RM5, can I get a key at the upgrade price?

Or do I need to upgrade from RM5 on my virtual windows, get a key, enter it in RM7 for Mac?

Or since it's been a while, do I need to just buy a key?

Is that built into the trial version?

Do I need to enter the key before restoring my backup?

Please disregard.  Downloaded, saw the purchase button, and I'm all good.  Thanks!
