I know I'm quite old and am a bit behind the times as I'm still using Rootsmagic Vs.4. I'm thinking about upgrading to a later version but am terrified that I might lose some of my precious data which now stretches to over 2500 people.

What are the risks and is it worth it?

Are there any horror stories?

Try the new RM7 Essentials [free download].  When you install the RM7 version, make certain that you KEEP the prior version[s].  That way, you can always go back to RM4.

Is your computer listed as a valid version of Windows for RM7.

Suggest that you make a new set of folders for RM7.

I have gone from RM4 to RM5 to RM6 to RM7.  So I am not certain about going directly from RM4 to RM7.

As long as you make a backup before you open your RootsMagic 4 database in RootsMagic 7 you will be ok. You can always restore it back in RootsMagic 4 if something happens during the conversion, like the power going out.
