This used to work quite happily, but since I've moved to Windows 10 it seems to have packed up!

I can click on the button for websearch, but the web-browser pane is always empty, no matter which search engine I use.

The little red 'progress' bar whizzes along at bottom right, but the pane remains blank.

What do I need to do, please?

What computer operating system are you using?

Have you checked your firewall to make sure RootsMagic is not being blocked from accessing the internet?

Hi Renee

Thanks for replying.

System is Windows 10 and I'm using RM6.

Does that help?

I've had a look at Windows Firewall and the list of programs doesn't include RootsMagic, either to be allowed or otherwise; it simply isn't in the list!

Try and add it on a list to allow access and see if that will make it work.

You likely need to download and click upon the .REG file from http://files.rootsma...Browser-Fix.reg

http://blog.rootsmagic.com/?p=2477

Or upgrade to v7

Thanks kbens0n - I'll give that link a try tomorrow when the PC is switched on.
As for upgrading to RM7 I'd be rather ticked-off if that's the solution as I only bought RM6 just over a year ago and it will cost me nearly as much again to upgrade.

You are most likely entitled to a free upgrade according to your approximate purchase date. See mention here:

Yes, last time I looked I fell just outside the date for a free upgrade.

The REG file is free and works for RM4 to RM7 users. Given your Shareable CD issue I suspect also this is what you need installed.

The.REG file has certainly fixed the WebSearch facility. :)

Now to check the Shareable CD issue ...

It's a good fix that .REG file! :)

Oh dear!

And now the WebSearch facility won't work with FamilySearch.

This is the screen that greets me when I try it.

If it's of any help I have recently upgraded my Windows 10 with the first major upgrade.

Any ideas please?

And ... clicking on the little LDS symbol to check for the FamilySearch Person Tools now requires a password but refuses to accept the u-name and password that I know are definitely correct.

What's gone wrong?

OK.

Forget this.

Just seen that it no longer works as support ceased as of 30th July 2015.

Thanks a bunch RM. :(

It is out of our control that FamilySearch broke things that used to work in RM6. We had to release an update to RM7 to support their changes. We never release updates to older version.

You could download RootsMagic 7 Essentials to open your RM6 database to use the FamilySearch Tools.  The file format is the same so you can go between RM6 & RM7 without an issue. The WebSearch tab is only available in the paid version so you would need to upgrade if you wanted to continue using it with FamilySearch.
