File > Properties gives the number of people, families, etc. in the file.  Would it be possible to count how many ancestors there are in the file (parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc.) ?  Just a thought.

You could drag'n'drop a person and just her ancestors to a new database and look at its file properties. The number of people minus 1 would be the number of her ancestors.

Create a Group of your Ancestors.  Make sure you are unmarked on the Group.
Go to Reports, Lists, Statistics List.

Choose the Group on the People to include dropdown menu.
Click Generate report.

Or Select from a List on the report screen if you don't want to create a Group.

This report will give you the number of Ancestors in the Group and the number of males and females.  It also reports other statistics about that Group.

I wish I had remembered this report sooner as it will be great to help me keep track of how far I still need to go when unmarking people from a Group while doing cleanup.  I won't have to create the Group again to get a count.

A new use for an old seldom used report.

I forgot that the Statistics List filtered by a list/group. Thanks for reminding us of this.
