Hi all

Now that RootsMagic7 is out and you've all jumped ship to join that one, does anyone (in the UK) have a copy of the book for RM6 available at a reasonable price?
I can only find ones in the USA on Amazon and the p&p makes them ridiculously expensive.

Cheers for any responses.

I had a copy that I offered here, but no response, so gave it to my local charity shop! !! Sorry! But, have you asked on the RM UK forum?

That should invoke a reply.

Thanks, but with shipping of £25+ I'll be giving it a miss.

Join the UK user problem of prohibitive shipping costs for the RM book. There have been various requests in the past for the book to be made available in PDF format for purchase and download but Rootsmagic have resisted that path for their own reasons.

Personally I believe if pirating was the perceived problem of making the book available for PDF download the increased availability of the book may well benefit the software sales more while hitting the book profits.

Hope you get a book at an affordable cost and by the way I have not jumped ship to RM7.

The articles on the Help file in RootsMagic can be printed. You could print your own book with more detail than the RM book will provide

If you have a pdf printer program, like CutePDFwriter, on your computer, you can even print Help articles to a pdf file.

Within RM, if you are needing help for a particular screen, you can press F1 and bring up the Help article for that screen and navigate the Help file as needed.

Or, you can open RM and, then, open the Help file and use Windows to put the Windows side by side.

I haven't bought a book since RM 1 and don't remember using it very much. RM Help is much more useful since it is on the monitor. I don't have to go back and forth between the computer screen and a book which distracts me from what I am doing.

You could buy a RootsMagic 7 book if that is available in the UK. Except for some new features, the basics which will be covered in the book haven't changed or changed very little.

Check the shipping at this site. This company is the distributor for RM in the UK so I am assuming the shipping cost is for shipment within the UK.

Thanks, Laura.
That sounds like good advice.
I do have CutePDFwriter so I'll give it a shot.

Ha! Got one!
The RM-UK website has one.
They finally answered an email of mine!
I am now also registered on their site so I'll be able to keep up to date there.

Many thanks for all the suggestions and help in this thread.

Yes, I had noticed that, so I won't be straying too far from here. ;)

As I said earlier in the thread, I've now got one, thank you.
As for Amazon, yes - I could find books for not much more than a dollar, but then shipping to the UK cost around £24 which will be well over $30!! :o
