When I add photos to the media album for a person some of them are rotated 90°.

That is defined by the reference orientation embedded in the image file. RootsMagic has no way to virtually rotate the image without rewriting the file, which it does if you edit the image using its Edit Media window. If you use an external program such as Picasa or the Windows Preview, the rotations done by them are virtual and you will have to save the file for RootsMagic to display them correctly. You may have to regenerate the thumbnail for which there is no convenient tool; you can use the Properties button and Change Media File in its window to fake RM into thinking it has a new file needing a thumbnail.
