Access Violation errors can have many causes. It could be the program, database or computer. You will need to rule out each one.

For the program make sure you are running version (Help>About RootsMagic)

For the database go to File>Database Tool and run all options there in consecutive order. If any errors are reported run them again.

For the computer I'm a little stuck because I don't run a Mac. For Windows users we recommend running their anti-virus software, Malwarebytes and CCleaner. Doing a registry clean helps. Maybe others can suggest the equivalent for a Mac.
