I have made a BIG BOO-BOO. I have accidently added an individual twice on my tree. Normally it would be easy to delete the individual but the person added is a direct line person which means that whichever one I "click" on to shows the previous family members which are quiet a few. If I were to delete one of them BOTH will be deleted and hundreds of people would be deleted. How do I get rid of one without deleting the other?

Don't delete the duplicate person!

Do they have different record numbers or the same record number?

With different record numbers, manual merge the two records.

With the same record number, you have linked the person twice. Highlight the family you want to unlink the person from and highlight that child or spouse. Go to Edit, Unlink, From Parents or from Spouse.

I suggest you watch Webinar 40, Fixing Incorrect Family Links in RootsMagic found on RootsMagic's website before you do anything.

The following was overheard at a recent high society party...
"My ancestry goes all the way back to Alexander the Great," said one lady. She then turned to a second woman and asked, "How far does your family go back?"
"I don't know," was the reply. "All of our records were lost in the flood."
