On many random occasions, the index omits birth/death dates. While they appear on family view, they often fail to show up on the index view. I have reported this problem at least four timesE:\MissingDates.jpg and have yet failed to get a fix, explanation or work-around tip.

Sorry but you are mistaken. File > Database Tools > Rebuild Indexes updates the Birth Year and the Death Year from the corresponding Birth/Christening event and Death event, provided they contain dates in a valid format.
