Is it possible to italicize words in the source details when using FreeForm?  I currently have the most recent version of RootsMagic 4.  Thanks for your help!

Ctrl-I to italicize only works in the master source portion (yellow). The source citation detail area (green) does not have that feature.

Not sure about RM4 but you can italicize in Source Details of Free Form (the Page field) by using HTML tags <i> and </i> around the words. Either way, they are exported in the GEDCOM and may not be properly handled by other software.
