I followed all the instructions for the Dropbox method to get my database to an iPhone 4S. The database starts downloading to the phone, then after about 15 seconds the application just closes. I never get a message that the download was successful. When I open the app and touch my database, again the app just closes.

Maybe your database is corrupted in some way that upsets the iOS app but is not so apparent in RM. Try using RM's Database Tools in this order: Integrity, Rebuild Indexes, Integrity (ok?), Clean, Compact, Integrity (ok?). Then put that file in your Dropbox and try downloading again.
