I have a lot of [desc] fields turned on that are not on as standard, just checked and they still enabled.

Might you have transferred your information by gedcom rather that allowing RM6 to convert the database?, regardless the information in any [desc] field will still be within the database.

When I went from RM6 Essentials to a new code would not happen..... A gedcom should have transferred it also.

This seems the first and only such incident reported in the forum so methinks you have either a corrupted database or committed an error, Nettie. Are you sure you found the right RM5 database file when you opened it with RM6. Of course you have the RM5 backup. Find the RM5 file with RM5, check it has the right stuff, take careful note of its path, use the Database Tools to test integrity, rebuild indexes and compact, backup and close it and then rename it uniquely. Then use RM6 to find that renamed file, open, let it upgrade and inspect.

Description field information will transfer through gedcom but you will not be able to view it until you enable the fact description field. I believe then exporting the information again through gedcom will drop description information for any fact where the description field has not been enabled.

Any database I simply opened from RM6 and allowed the convertion retained sentencing and my fact type settings.

Tom H no corrupted database. Have the correct one open in RM5 with all desc enabled and sentence templates a okay. Did use that file for the gedcom. Need to play with it more, before I say anything more.

Do a backup of the RM5 database and restore it with RM6 into a folder just for RM6 data!

You do not need a GEDCOM to upgrade your RM5 database to RM6. Just open the RM5 file with RM6 and it automatically upgrades it.

Nettie, go to the database file location with Windows Explorer, right click your file and select copy, right click and select paste, you will now have a copy of your file. Open the "...-Copy" one with RM6 and allow it to complete the conversion.

All will be well and you will still have a RM5 version of your file.

Went back and double checked the RM5 database and then re named it and loaded it into the New RM6 and everything thing was there. Not sure what happened and why the old version of that RM5 went to the new one, but now fixed. Thanks for all the imput. :)
