I noticed that my history is stored in a file .phist. If my descendants wish to open this 30 or 40 years from now, will they need this program to access it?
I have been keeping my history in MS word. I am always hesitant of story info in different file types. Any suggestions on keeping this history so it is available later? It doesn't do me any good to record this if no one can read it.

The (.phist) is the working database file. You would need the program installed in order to read the data in the file. To share with your family you would need to create a book with the Publish feature inside of Personal Historian. Once you generate the book you can save it as a RTF file that opens in Microsoft Word, a PDF, HTML (Websites) or a Text File.
