OK, I'm not LDS. However, I received permission a few months ago and I have an account which will open in either the now old "New FamilyTrees" or from the new "Family Tree" link when I go to FamilySearch.org and log in. I can log in to either easily from my browser [Chrome or IE] I knew that RootsMagic 5 did not yet link to the newest format so did not want to do much connecting until that had been fixed, but I did attach a few of my ancestors to see how the process works. I have logged in from these persons from RootsMagic in the past, but not in the last few weeks.
Now if click on the icon in RootsMagic to connect, put in my password - I get "loading..." and everything locks up. I can close the Loading window which never, ever, loads anything, but RootsMagic is totally locked up and can only be shut down with the Task Manager. Any ideas?

I checked and I am able to login right now. We know that there have been many issues with NFS and the ability to login. This is due to the work FamilySearch is doing to move all data to the Family Tree. The best thing to do is always check if you can login at the website http://new.familysearch.org at the same time.

Now RootsMagic is using a different link it's going though FamilySearch's API to access NFS. So the API could be down and not the website. The important thing is do you have the correct login and password.

Have you tried logging into NFS from RootsMagic using File>FamilySearch Central or by clicking on the FamilySearch tree icon after their name in one of the views.

I did try using the File>FamilySearch Central link first and using my login and password [yes, they were correct] and connected immediately. Now I can also go from an individual, so whatever or wherever the problem was, it has gone away.

FYI James Tanner, on his Blog Genealogy's Star, has been explaining about the NFS and what is happening behind the scene at www.familysearch.org I have him set up in my Google Reader+ so I get all the news. James is a retired lawyer , knows his computer, volunteers and teaches classes at a local Family History Center in Mesa, AZ. He does a very good job of explaining what is going on. See his site at http://genealogyssta...amily-tree.html then maybe you will understand more of why it does not always work in RM. Like Renee has said too many things are going on at that site and wait is the name of the game right now. :) By the way, I am a non Morman and do have access sign on to the site. But do not use it from with in RM.

Another FYI - James Tanner knows no more than Dinkie Duck about FamilySearch. He's not a FamilySearch employee and has no access to the inner workings of FamilySearch. He's a blogger. Anyone can write a blog. About anything.

You can know just as much as James Tanner (and then you can write your own blog!) by monitoring the official FamilySearch Family Tree Release Notes here:

Thanks for sharing the blogging site. I do not agree with your assessment, but that is your choice. He is a recognized teacher for the Family History Centers.

I am not here to ......... just to share information......
